“You are currently not allowed to use this service. Please contact customer care support. Msg 2131” – Virgin Mobile Error

UPDATE May 16, 2013: It would appear this is an issue that affects virgin mobile customers from time to time. There’s nothing you can do about it, and it should resolve itself eventually. It’s a problem with the network itself.

If you just got a text from the phone number 9230 on your Virgin Mobile phone saying, “You are currently not allowed to use this service. Please contact customer care support. Msg 2131,” you are not alone! I just got this error on my Motorola Triumph after attempting to send a text to someone. Reports online are coming in from people experiencing the same problem on their LG Optimus V’s and other Virgin Mobile devices.

Currently there is no word from Virgin themselves on the cause of the issue, and it is unclear to me now. It WOULD appear however that texts ARE going through despite the message. I will keep you posted on any updates.

In the meantime, Motorola Triumph users may want to check out my tip to remove that super-annoying bug that causes you to always be out of phone memory here.
