I’ve been using FreshDesk for a while now to manage routine maintenance of all my clients’ websites. Recently, however, my accounting needs have grown and so I had been asking around about invoicing solutions. Someone suggested FreshBooks, and even told me that it was the accounting portion of FreshDesk.
However, when I began researching it, I couldn’t find anything that verified that was the case! They both integrate together evidently, but a mild integration is a far-cry from actually being the same company. You’d think because they both start with “Fresh” they would be the same, but as far as I can tell, that’s just not true.
According to Wikipedia, FreshBooks is a Canadian company founded by Michael McDerment and Joe Sawada in 2004. FreshDesk, however, is an Indian company founded by Girish Mathrubootham in 2010. I cannot find any sources that suggest these companies are at all related.
I will probably be signing up for FreshBooks regardless, and will hopefully have more to say about it at a later date. But now hopefully there is a source on the internet explaining whether FreshBooks and FreshDesk are the same company. They are not!
